Project Underpass 2018 - 1 Year on

It’s been over a year since the 3 artists finished their murals along Back Creek Trail, we went for a ride to see how the murals were holding up… It’s safe to say, they’ve seen better days.

While we were (kind of) expected Bendigo’s street artists and graffiti writers to add their mark on these walls, we were also hoping the additions would be somewhat meaningful, a show of artistic ability, perhaps some political activism or even just a burner. Instead we’ve got a few average scribbles, poor throwies (Whats a throwie?) and some bullshit offensive messages.

These bridges are in the perfect location for writers and street artists to take their time painting a piece with detail, flexing some style or experimenting with something new. Instead, they have chosen to waste some black paint and disrespect the artists who actually spent time and energy crafting their work. While the works might not have be to the taste of some of Bendigo’s ‘traditional’ graffiti writers, it’s a shame they didn’t have the skill to improve what they were vandalising.

The existing murals have now pretty much been savaged to the point where it’s pointless to maintain the existing artworks. We’d like to invite the real writers of Bendigo to step up and fill this space with graffiti, street art, stencils and everything in between.

If you’d like some assistance in getting a permit to paint under these bridges, get in touch and we’ll help make it happen. For those who would prefer to paint under the cover of darkness, thats on you, lets see if you can create a burner that we won’t want to buff.

So what do you think? Should these guys step it up and paint something decent, or is it ok to bomb someone elses work like this? Let us know in the comments below.
